16-year-old shot by police over dispute over cow killed in accident dies

A 16-year-old teenager shot by the police late July 16 in the eastern province of Erzurum during a dispute over the death of a cow hit by a car has died after being transferred to the hospital.

Tension erupted between the driver of the car that hit the cow and the two young brothers who were accompanying the animal in the roads of Erzurum’s Palandöken district.

According to witnesses, relatives of the two brothers, identified as F.Ç., 14, and İ.Ç., 16, came to the scene over the incident carrying knives and batons at their hands.

While police opened fire in the air, one person attacked the driver identified, as E.A., stabbing him is his left armpit.

One of the police officers then opened fire, fatally wounding İ.Ç. and injuring the younger one of the brothers.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
