Turkish police raided a mosque allegedly used by outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants as a base in the Nusaybin district in southeastern Mardin province on Aug. 16.

A number of documents and armaments used by PKK militants were seized from the Hacı Şemsettin Yusma Mosque in the Abdulkadir Paşa neighborhood.

During the search inside and outside the mosque rocket propelled grenades, rifles, Molotov cocktails, ammunition and documents were seized. Some of these armaments were hidden under the prayer carpets in the mosque.

The raid came after an explosion in which two police officers were wounded after they attempted to fill ditches in the town. During previous raids in the same area, explosives and armaments were seized and 14 people were detained.
