Istanbul police started to use tear gas against protesters gathered in the Beşiktaş district on Dolmabahçe Avenue for the third day in a row, at 8 p.m. on June 3.

The protesters in Taksim's Gezi Park also felt the effects of gas shortly after the Beşiktaş intervention.

Police also fired tear gas on a group of protesters who had been waiting behind the barricades near Gümüşsuyu, which is known as the main route from the Dolmabahçe area to Taksim Square. Tensions remained high at the barricades established at Gümüşsuyu .

Gas felt at Gezi Park

The source of the gas felt at Gezi Park remains unknown, as witnesses reported that there was no police presence at the park at the time.

The protesters tried to escape the gas to sooth themselves with lemons and other medicine.

Reports suggest that the gas may have drifted from the direction of Dolmabahçe Avenue.

As of midnight, large crowds were still gathered at Taksim Square.
