Man who punched woman on Istanbul street arrested

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Oct. 2 for punching a woman on the street in Istanbul’s Ataşehir district on Sept. 30, in an incident that was captured by the surveillance cameras.
Police identified the suspect as a medical student.
In the footage widely shared on social media and analyzed by police, the man is seen approaching the woman from behind and punching her after the woman complained that he had shouldered her.
The woman fell on the pavement after the punch and was then surrounded by eyewitnesses who helped her get up.
“The man first ran into the woman, then he punched her. We saw the woman fall down. By the time we rushed there the man had left. It all happened in the blink of an eye,” Özkan Soncul, an eyewitness, told the Doğan News Agency on Sept. 30.
