DHA photoThe main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) is preparing for a major overhaul of its platform, because the social-democratic policies of the 1970s no longer respond to modern realities, CHP chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has said.
“Political parties need to renew themselves. We are renewing ourselves according to social and economic developments, and we should even get ahead of them,” Kılıçdaroğlu told reporters accompanying him on a visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina, according to daily Milliyet. “The left cannot carry on with the model of the 1970s, we cannot advocate the left based on that model. Before, there were only workers, bosses and trade unions. But today there are the white-collar workers. Technology has significantly advanced.
Intellectual achievements and discoveries are steering the economy. For this reason we will open up our party platform to a far-reaching debate,” he said.
