AA PhotoThe Peoples’ Democratic Party (BDP) officially submitted the name of its presidential candidate, Selahattin Demirtaş, the HDP co-chair, to Parliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek on July 1.
HDP Parliament Group Deputy Chair İdris Baluken submitted the petition, signed by 30 lawmakers, saying the election next month is important and its “result more important.”
HDP candidate Demirtaş is a “victim of discriminatory policies and a spokesperson of uniting policies,” Baluken said. “We think an understanding that comes from within the people should take the presidential seat, not an understating from the status quo.”
Çiçek, for his part, said “the nation would make the best choice.”
