The name of the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival has been changed to the Antalya International Film Festival, according to a statement made by Antalya Mayor Menderes Türel.

Stating that nearly 450 accredited film festivals were being organized in the world, Türel said only two of them had the same name as the festival award but they did not have and “international section.”

“Forty-three films are members of the World International Festivals Union; the Antalya Film Festival is one of them. This is the only festival having the same name as the award. It is found odd by the international community. Because the name of the festival in Venice is the Venice Film Festival and the award is the Golden Lion. The Cannes Film Festival has the Golden Palm award. Awards compete but it is important to mention cities with the name of the festivals.”

Türel said the city of Antalya was their priority, adding, “The Golden Orange Award will live forever. The name of the award is the Golden Orange but the name of the festival will be the Antalya International Film Festival, because no film festival in the world is mentioned with the name of the award. Preparations for the festival continue.”
