‘Coin thief’ puzzles locals in Turkey’s east
A burglar who broke into a supermarket and stole only coins has puzzled some locals in the eastern province of Sivas, who wondered why he did not even touch the banknotes and valuable items around.
Local media reported Oct. 31 that the incident happened in a supermarket in the Mehmet Akif Ersoy neighborhood a night before.
The burglar is seen in security camera footage while opening the cash register and left the shop after taking some money.
Yusuf Yıldırım, the shop owner, was reportedly surprised in the morning when he saw that the thief only took the coins.
“He did not touch anything else,” Yıldırım added, noting that there was also money in the form of banknotes, as well as relatively expensive items on sale, like boxes of cigarette packs.
