Warrants out for soldiers over suspected FETÖ links

Turkish prosecutors have issued detention warrants for 100 on-duty soldiers over their alleged links to FETÖ, the group that is widely believed to have orchestrated the failed coup attempt of July 2016.

The warrants were issued for personnel of the Turkish Land Forces Command, according to the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in the capital Ankara, state-run Anadolu Agency said on Jan. 7.

The suspects are accused of periodically and sequentially communicating with FETÖ members with pay phones.

FETÖ is widely believed to have orchestrated the failed coup attempt of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people killed and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETÖ of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
