A truck driver allegedly cut off an ambulance and assaulted the paramedics after the emergency vehicle passed him in traffic in the Aegean province of Muğla yesterday. The emergency vehicle was on its way to an ambulance base station after it had dropped off a patient at Fethiye State Hospital in Muğla's Fethiye district.

The ambulance passed a truck on Süleyman Demirel Boulevard, after which the truck caught up with the ambulance and cut it off. Truck driver Turgut Abalı, 39, got out of his vehicle and shouted "How dare you pass me?" at ambulance driver 23-year-old Murat Bahadır Karakaya.

Abalı demanded that Karakaya and three female paramedics get out of the ambulance.

Karakaya, his paramedic wife Dilek Karakaya, and paramedics Neslihan Yılmaz and Ayşe Gürbüz locked themselves in the vehicle and called the police.

Police arrived and detained Abalı. The ambulance crew filed a complained against him, and he was set to stand before a court today
