Several Turkmen officials were slightly injured when six cars in President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's motorcade crashed into each other in İzmir today.

Berdimuhamedov was in İzmir to see the Alsancak port and meet his Turkish counterpart, President Abdullah Gül, in the resort town of Çeşme.

Five rental luxury cars in the motorcade and one car belonging to members of the press crashed into each other in an underpass as the vehicles traveled from Adnan Menderes Airport to Alsancak port. The road was closed to traffic as several drivers and officials from the Turkmen delegation suffered bruises to their arms and legs.

Berdimuhamedov's vehicle was not involved in the accident.

Police officers hurried to remove the crashed cars from the road to make way for the Turkish president's motorcade, which was following Berdimuhamedov.
