An intercity ferry carrying passengers from Istanbul to the northwestern province of Bursa was searched late Feb. 28 due to a bomb hoax, Doğan News Agency has reported. Two suspects were detained over the incident.

Upon a tip received by the Bursa Police Department, police searched the Bursa-bound ferry that sailed off from Istanbul’s Kabataş pier at 9:45 p.m., following initial security measures taken at Mudanya pier late Feb. 28.

Bomb deactivation experts searched the ferry when it reached Mudanya pier at 11:15 p.m. and the police detained two reportedly young suspects. The two were taken to the Mudanya Police Department for interrogation.

No bomb or any other bomb-like device was found during the one-hour search conducted of all passengers and their possessions by specially trained police dogs.

An investigation has been launched into hoax and was reported to be ongoing. The Istanbul police also took security measures around Kabataş pier for a few hours after the incident.
