Turkey's Cappadocia region breaks tourist record this year

The number of tourists visiting the Cappadocia region between January and May this year reached nearly 1 million, which is a record number, according to officials. Last year in the same term, the number was below 900,000.According to data provided by the Nevşehir Governor’s Office, the Göreme Open Air Museum drew the highest number of tourists, 137,214. Other top sites included Kaymaklı underground city with 65,210 tourists and Derinkuyu underground city with 48,106 tourists.
They were followed by the ruins in Zelve, Mustafapaşa and Açıksaray, Çavuşin, El Nazar, Karanlık, Gülşehir’s St. Jean Church, Nevşehir, Ürgüp, the Hacıbektaş Veli Museum, the Hacıbektaş Atatürk House, Özkonak and Tatlarin, with a total of 960,480 tourists.
