Turkey prevented 229 PKK attacks, says deputy PM
AA photoTurkey has prevented a total of 229 attacks by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) across the country, Deputy Prime Minister Nurettin Cankli announced on Sept. 7. Some 155 planned bombings were also prevented, according to Canikli.
“In 24 cases, the organization members preparing attacks were caught,” he also said.
Canikli also gave numbers regarding the materials seized during operations against the PKK.
“Between Aug. 15 and Sept. 7, some 13.1 tons of ammonium nitrate and a total of 339 cylinders used in explosive production were confiscated. In addition, 129 home-made explosives were found and destroyed,” he also said.
The PKK has intensified its attacks in Turkey’s east and southeast since the summer of 2015.
