Speed limit to increase to 90 in Turkish cities

ANKARA – Anadolu Agency
The speed limit in cities will increase from 70 km/h to 90 km/h with a new regulation prepared by the Security General Directorate.

The regulation will take effect when the schools reopen in the middle of September or by the end of September at the latest.

The Highways Traffic Code set the speed limit in residential areas at 50 km/h. The Transportation and Coordination Center (UKOME) and provincial traffic commissions have the right to increase that limit up to 70 km/h. Many cities set the speed limit as 70 km/h to prevent traffic jams.
