Soldier killed in PKK fire in Turkey’s southeast

Soldier killed in PKK fire in Turkey’s southeast One gendarmerie specialized sergeant was killed and two others were wounded in a clash between the security forces and the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the Dağlıca district of the southeastern Hakkari province early on May 14. 

İhsan Mert was killed when the PKK militants opened fire around 7.15 a.m., while the wounded soldiers were taken to the hospital.

Reinforcements and helicopters were sent to the scene of the incident. 

A security operation was launched in Dağlıca with aerial support on May 14. Two militants were killed in the operations, according to the Turkish General Staff. 

Mert’s funeral will be held in the southern district of Hatay on May 15.
