Soldier killed in clashes in SE Turkey
Hand out photo of training sessions at Turkish Armed Forces posts. DHA PhotoOne lieutenant was killed today in clashes with suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the southeastern province of Şırnak, daily Hürriyet reported.
The clashes erupted when search teams came into contact with PKK militants during ongoing operations in the area. Militants reportedly responded with fire when security forces asked them to surrender. One gendarmerie lieutenant was killed in the clashes.
Operations are continuing in the area.
