Six suspects have been detained after the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov in Ankara, Doğan News Agency has reported.

Police initially detained five people on Dec. 19 including İsrafil Altıntaş, the father of the attacker Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, his mother Hamidiye, and his sister Seher Altıntaş, who were living in the Söke district of the western province of Aydın.

On Dec. 20 police also detained Altıntaş’s uncle, who had been working at a closed school allegedly linked to the Gülen movement in the Kuşadası district, bringing the number of detainees in the assassination to six.

The uncle of Altıntaş was reportedly detained but was later released as a part of the investigation into Gülen movement, which was accused of orchestrating the failed July 15 coup attempt.

Police officer Altıntaş shot Karlov dead at an art exhibition in the Turkish capital Ankara on Dec. 19.
