Ruling AKP official wounded, his brother killed in attack in Turkey’s southeast

Ruling AKP official wounded, his brother killed in attack in Turkey’s southeast A local official from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) was wounded and his elder brother was killed in a gun attack in the southeastern province of Hakkari late on March 9, state-run Anadolu Agency has reported.       
A group of outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants reportedly attacked Tayfun Ayhan, the AKP head of the Esendere town in the Yüksekova district, and his elder brother Murat Ayhan in the district’s center.        

Tayfun Ayhan was taken to a state hospital in the district, while Murat Ayhan was transferred to a state hospital in Hakkari, sources said.      

Murat Ayhan succumbed to his injuries in hospital while receiving treatment.  

Security forces launched an operation in the district’s center to apprehend the suspects while tightening security measures near the hospital.     

Meanwhile, Republican People’s Party (CHP) lawmaker Mehmet Bekaroğlu condemned the attack. 

“I condemn every form of violence and the attack on Esendere’s AKP official and his elder brother,” he said on his Twitter account.
