Proenca to officiate final, Çakır named Fourth official

Portugal’s Pedro Proenca will referee his second major European final in a matter of months, while Turkey’s Cüneyt Çakır will be the fourth official as UEFA named the officials for the Euro 2012 final between Spain and Italy.

Proence refereed the Champions League final in May which saw Chelsea beat Bayern Munich on penalties.

The 41-year-old ‘s compatriots Bertino Cunha Miranda and Ricardo Jorge Ferreira Santos will run the lines in Kiev on Sunday, while Manuel Jorge Neves Moreira De Sousa and Duarte Nuno Pereira Gomes will be additional assistant referees.

Çakır, who has officiated the semifinal between Spain and Portugal, will work as a fourth official in the final.

UEFA said that Proenca had been “on the rise in European refereeing circles” since officiating the European under-19 championship final in 2004.
