A police bomb squad was dispatched to Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport when passenger onboard an Onur Air flight between Antalya and Istanbul claimed to be carrying a bomb earlier today, daily Hürriyet reported.

The plane was evacuated and special forces police performed a detailed search inside the plane, finding no explosive substance.

"This passenger appears to have some mental problems; he has previously undergone treatment," the Istanbul police chief, Hüseyin Çapkın, said.

The passenger was subsequently detained.
