One soldier killed in SE Turkey during PKK clash

A specialized sergeant died in clashes with suspected outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) members Dec. 23 in Cudi Mountain in the southeastern Şırnak province.

Specialized Sgt. Mehmet Bostanoğlu, 35, died during a large-scale operation against an estimated 20 PKK members. Two of the PKK members were caught with their guns, Anatolia news agency reported. Turkey’s state-run television TRT also reported 15 PKK members were killed in the operation; however, the report was not confirmed.

Meanwhile, a funeral ceremony for fallen specialized sergeant Cezmi Kaya, who died Dec. 22, was held in his hometown of Eskişehir yesterday. Kaya died in a landmine explosion during patrol in the southeastern Hakkari province.
