Mother’s death causes debate

ISTANBUL - Anatolia News Agency
Relatives of a 40-year-old woman who died during childbirth in an Istanbul hospital on July 30 claim her death was due to the doctor’s resistance to performing a Caesarean section.

According to the claims, Şükrüye Tuğ’s blood pressure went up during the delivery at the Semiha Şakir maternity ward, and she could not be saved. Ziya Tuğ, the woman’s husband, said that if a C-section had been performed from the start she could have survived.

Tuğ’s sister-in-law said Tuğ fainted twice during the delivery due to high blood pressure, but the doctors insisted on normal delivery.

However the Istanbul Local Health Authority issued a press release yesterday denying the allegations.“Tuğ was not forced to undergo a normal delivery as reports said. A sudden bleeding complication occurred during the operation,” the statement said.
