Istanbul’s Üsküdar district conducted what is believed to be the world’s first wedding via Twitter with the happy couple making their vows over the microblogging site under the direction of the local mayor, daily Milliyet reported.
 
Üsküdar Mayor Mustafa Kara used Twitter to ask the bride and groom, Candan Canik and Cengizhan Çelik, whether they were willing take the other as their spouse. Receiving an “I do” from both, Kara then retweeted the answers for all to see.
 
The couple’s witnesses also used Twitter for their role in the wedding.
 
Following all the standard procedures of the ceremony, Kara pronounced – again via Twitter – Canik and Çelik as husband and wife.
