Galatasaray bounce back with 2-0 win over Alanyaspor

Galatasaray has kept its top spot in Turkey’s Super League after defeating Alanyaspor 2-0 late on Nov. 25.

The Lions scored the opening goal at the Turk Telekom Stadium in the 33rd minute, when Bafetimbi Gomis’s shot was caught by a running Yasin Öztekin, who then easily finished the job from within the six-yard box.

In command of the pace throughout the match, Galatasaray had many chances to increase its lead, but missed some easy opportunities.

When Öztekin passed to Gomis in a counter-attack in the 88th minute, the deadly striker did not miss the chance to increase his goal tally to 13 goals in 13 matches.

Galatasaray increased their points total to 29, leaving Alanyaspor lagging at 17 points.

The win came just hours after another title contender Beşiktaş stalled its advance up the league table with a draw against Yeni Malatyaspor in Turkey’s eastern province of Malatya.

The draw marked two back-to-back 0-0 results for the Black Eagles, which means they drop two more points.

Beşiktaş raised its total to 23, while Yeni Malatyaspor finished at 15 points.

Second place Başakşehirspor faces a serious test against Kayserispor on Nov. 27 in the closing game of the week, as it continues to chase the top spot.
