Gendarmerie units rescued a 24-year-old student on the northwestern province of Bursa’s Uludağ mountain just before he was about to freeze to death, daily Milliyet reported today.

Yiğit Bilal Makine, 24, had been snowboarding on the mountain but failed to find his way back to his hotel due to heavy fog.

Rescuers were able to locate Makine just in time by following the signal on his phone after he tweeted his friends in fear about what he thought were the last minutes of his life.

He was found exhausted and crawling on the ground, Milliyet reported.

"I thought I was going to die," Makine told reporters. "I was so afraid. I screamed for help but no one heard. Then I got stuck in the snow, and my feet were about to freeze. I was barely conscious when the gendarmerie saved me."

Makine was brought back to his hotel by the rescuers.
