Former mayor, son killed in armed attack in Suruç

AA PhotoThe former mayor of the Turkish border town of Suruç’s and his son were killed in a gun attack on Oct. 19 in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa.
The assailants opened fire with a long-barreled weapon on the car in which Salih Tekinalp and his son Sinan Tekinalp were traveling at around 4 p.m. The car crashed into the side guard rail after the father and son were shot.
An investigation has been launched into the incident while police are searching for the attackers, whose identities remain unknown.
Salih Tekninalp, who was a senior member of the Dinay tribe in the region, was injured in another gun attack four months ago.
Suruç has attracted national media attention over the past month, as it sits immediately across from the besieged northern Syrian town of Kobane.
