Five people were killed and twelve were wounded as a result of extreme flooding in the southeastern province of Hatay.

Officials said the Dörtyol district was hit by severe rainstorms, causing flooding, which killed five people. Twelve injured people were rescued, while there are reportedly also citizens who remain missing.

The Chief of General Staff has deployed a search and rescue helicopter to aid the local authorities, while the Ministry of Health has sent an ambulance helicopter.

The search and rescue attempts in the area are continuing, daily Hurriyet has reported.
