The Turkish champion will play for the top crown in women’s volleyball in Europe as it participates the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League Final Four in the Azerbaijani capital.
In the semifinals scheduled for March 24, Fenerbahçe Universal, runner-up in 2010 and bronze medalists from the past season, will challenge Dinamo Kazan, while RC Cannes – the only former winner of the semifinalists with its 2002 and 2003 victories – will extend its rivalry with Italy’s sensation MC-Carnaghi Villa Cortese after edging already twice in the prelims the group coming from the outskirts of Milan.
No home team
Fenerbahçe Universal deprived home fans of a chance to visit a team from their country, since the Istanbul team has knocked Rabita, last year’s champion, out of the competition in the quarterfinal. However, the “Heydar Aliyev” Sports and Concert Complex, the largest sports hall in the country, is still expected to be fully packed.
