A mysterious blast has occurred near Istanbul’s central Bayrampaşa metro station with the Istanbul governor stating one citizen injured as the cause of the explosion remains unknown.

Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin said that one citizen slightly injured in the unknown explosion.

Meanwhile, Doğan News Agency (DHA) reported the explosion in Istanbul was caused by a hand-made bomb. The agency also reported that the blast occurred seconds after a bus carrying riot police passed through.

According to DHA's security sources, the police were targeted in the attack. However, the claim was not confirmed or refuted by state officials.

The windows of a passing metro wagon were broken, after which passengers were evacuated.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, however, only announced that metro lines were cancelled due to a “sound resembling an explosion.”

Reports of the blast went viral on social media, with users from various locations across the city reporting that they heard an explosion.

Ambulances have been dispatched to the scene.
