Energy Minister Berat Albayrak has announced that there will be a 10 percent discount on natural gas prices as of Oct. 1.“We had said we would implement a discount on our public when the first positive decision was taken at the Iran arbitration case as of the New Year in line with the result of the case. However, the process was not completed as the decision has not come to a signing point. However, since we had said we would begin the process before winter, we have decided to reflect the discount as of Oct. 1 after discussions with our Prime Minister [Binali Yıldırım]. We will implement a 10-percent discount both for consumer and industry,” Albayrak said on Sept. 29, while speaking after a visit to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) in the capital Ankara.
The minister also added that the government was not projecting an increase for electricity prices but said there might be a discount.
“We are not thinking about an increase in electricity. Moreover, it is more likely that there would strongly be an electricity cost decrease in the event of a cost decrease,” he said.
