Draft offers two terms at TMSF, BBDK
ANKARA - Anatolia News Agency
A draft law offering to let the heads of the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF) and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) to stay in their posts for an additional term was submitted to Parliament yesterday. The current heads of the authorities can keep their posts for two terms, according to the draft law, which also reduces the term to 5 years from the current 6.
Meanwhile, the terms of offices of TMSF head Şakir Ercan Gül and TMSF Board Member Rasih Muhammet Danış ended yesterday. TMSF Vice President Abdullah Demiröz assumes the post as acting President until a new name is designated.
An initial draft regulating the terms of office of the heads and members of public authorities was prepared without the knowledge of the Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, who also heads the Economic Coordination Board.
However, Ali Babacan announced last week that a new draft would be prepared at the Prime Ministry and that the initial draft was a move by some officials at the Prime Ministry to fill what they perceived was a gap in the law.
The officials in question had apologized to him, Babacan said.
