A
court in the Ceyhan region in the southern province of Adana has
reduced its punishment of a woman who tortured her six-year-old child
because of her good behavior during the trial, daily Hürriyet has
reported.
The
woman's lawyer had demanded her release by claiming that she suffered
from a mental illness. The court did not accept this demand, but the
four-year punishment of the suspect was reduced to three years and four
months due to the good behavior she showed during the trial.
The woman was arrested six months ago when policemen discovered traces of torture on the body of her six-year-old child.
