An intense debate has been going on among medical doctors from different disciplines as to the merits of the Karatay Diet, written by Cardiology Professor Canan Efendigil Karatay.

Listed among the national bestsellers in its category, the diet has already acquired itself considerable fame in Turkey among all the other protein-based, anti-carbohydrate diets. However, its author repeatedly underlines her dietary discipline’s difference from the rest by claiming that it is the most suitable type of dietary program for Turkish eating habits.

In her book “Bilimsel Gerçeklerle Kilo Vermenin ABC’si: Karatay Diyeti” (The ABCs of Losing Weight through Scientific Facts: the Karatay Diet), Karatay offers radical claims as to the reasons for cholesterol and weight gain. Her colleagues have had much to say about her claims.

Canan Karatay is a graduate of internal medicine at Istanbul University. She received cardiology education at Liverpool Regional Cardiac Center. She famously introduced the “vena subclavia ponction” technique to cardiology practice in Turkey.
