BİLGİ wins Olympics-like competition Since its creation in 1999, the Game Theory Society has been among the most prestigious and influential international scientific societies in the world. The current president, Professor Eric Maskin, and the incoming president of the society, Professor Roger Myerson, were awarded the Nobel Prize in economics in 2007.

Every four years the society hosts its world congress. Istanbul Bilgi University, through the Murat Sertel Center for Advanced Economic Studies, will host the 2012 congress. Bilgi University won against well known universities in a competition similar to the one organized by the International Olympic Committee. Each world congress is a major global event. Beyond its great scientific impact, it also forms a rare gathering of the most prestigious scholars in economics and applied mathematics.
