Başakşehir stutters to leave Galatasaray atop Turkish Super League

Title contender Başakşehir was held to a draw in the Central Anatolian province of Kayseri late on Nov. 27 in the closing game of week 13, leaving Galatasaray alone at the summit of the Turkish Super League.

Former Galatasaray striker Umut Bulut scored the first goal for home side Kayserispor in the 9th minute. Başakşehir answered back in the 28th minute through in-form forward Emmanuel Adebayor, who scored a hat-trick against Galatasaray last week.

However, neither team was able to find a winning goal in the second half.

Basaksehir is now on 27 points, two behind Galatasaray, while Kayserispor is now in 5th place with 23 points. Istanbul clubs Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş are also on 23 points and are in third and fourth place respectively.

Fenerbahçe defeated Antalyaspor 1-0 late on Nov. 26 at the Antalya Stadium in the Mediterranean city.

The Yellow Canaries got the winning goal just before half time, when Brazilian attacking midfielder Giuliano Victor de Paula found the net from inside the penalty box after striker Vincent Janssen’s assist.

The successfully executed counter-attack meant a 1-0 lead in the first half for Fenerbahce, which managed to hold on in the second half.

Beşiktaş, meanwhile, drew 0-0 with Yeni Malatyaspor a day earlier in the eastern province of Malatya.

The goalless draw marked two back-to-back 0-0 results for the Black Eagles.
