An armored police vehicle has caused the death of a Syrian child while he was playing with his toys on the street in the Şişli district of Istanbul.

The vehicle hit the 9-year-old child Rashed al-Ousso while he was riding his scooter on the Seyhan Street in the Mahmut Şevket Paşa neighborhood at around 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 1.

Al-Ousso was taken to the Okmeydanı Research and Training Hospital with the same armored vehicle that caused him severe injury by the police officers, but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

His relatives arrived in front of the hospital and the boy’s dead body was taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute in the Yenibosna neighborhood.

Police took security measures around the hospital after the incident.

Al-Ousso’s mother Emine al-Ousso reportedly moved to Turkey from Syria after the death of her husband three years ago.

An investigation was launched into the incident, which drew widespread anger on social media.
