Another closed lane to boost jam in Istanbul

ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
Another lane on the Fatih Sultan Mehmet (FSM) Bridge will be closed tonight for repair work, likely increasing the traffic crisis already gripping the city due to the ongoing closure of two lanes on the bridge to vehicles.

A third lane on the FSM Bridge is scheduled to be closed at midnight on July 25, temporarily increasing the number of closed southbound lanes. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality has reported that the lane will be reopened to traffic July 27.

Repair work

“As part of the repair work on the FSM Bridge, conducted by the General Directorate of Highways, one more lane on the southern transportation road will be closed to traffic July 25 at midnight. The number of closed lanes in the southbound [direction] will be three. Three of the five remaining lanes will serve the direction in which traffic is busier, while the other two lanes will serve the other direction. The lane to be closed will be reopened on July 27 at midnight. [That] same day two left lanes of the northern transportation road will be closed to traffic, and the repair work will continue,” a statement from the General Directorate of Highways said.

Additional bus

As a result of the repair work, the Istanbul Public Transport Authority (İETT) will provide additional bus service to support sea transportation and meet demand on routes that pass by the bridge. Bus Inc. will increase their shuttle busses, supporting sea transportation. Passenger transportation hours on the Küçüksu-İstinye route, initiated by City Line Inc., have been reorganized to meet citizens’ demands. k HDN
