8 killed in traffic accident in Manisa

Eight people died and one was injured in a traffic accident in the Aegean province of Manisa on Oct. 3.

Kenan Dilsiz, 61, lost control of his car in the province’s Akhisar district at about 6:30 a.m. while en route to Istanbul, first hitting barriers in the center of the road before crashing into a car traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver and his relatives Sebahat Dilsiz, 60, Saliha Dilsiz, 60, and Mehmet Dilsiz, 46, who were in the same car, died at the scene.

The driver of the other car, Metin Kardaşlı, 56, and his relatives who were also in the car, Şükrüye Kırtan, 83, Selma Kırtan, 54 and Recep Kırtan, 48, died at the scene. One passenger in the same car, Ece Nur Kardaşlı, 11, survived the accident and was hospitalized immediately with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident came as millions of people took to the roads for the Feast of Sacrifice celebrations across Turkey.
