A total of 24 soldiers were wounded late Sept. 21 in attacks by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the eastern province of Van.

PKK militants remotely detonated a hand-made explosive placed on the Başkale-Hakkari motorway at around 11:30 p.m. as a military vehicle was passing by. The armored vehicle was overturned as a result of the explosion, wounding 13 soldiers inside. The wounded soldiers were taken to Başkale State Hospital and later transferred to a university hospital with helicopters after receiving initial treatment.

Meanwhile, eleven soldiers were wounded in a separate attack by the PKK militants on early Sept. 22, the Van Governor’s Office has stated.

PKK militants detonated explosives placed on the Van-Hakkari motorway during the passing of a military vehicle, wounding eleven.

Security forces have conducted an operation to apprehend the militants responsible for the attack.
