DENİZLİ - Anatolia News Agency
Denizli State Theater, the 55th State Theater, opened its curtains for the first time Nov. 24 with a play written and directed by playwright Haldun Dormen.
At the opening ceremony Culture and Tourism Ministry Undersecretary Özgür Özaslan said Denizli raised the bar in the field of culture thanks to this investment. He said Turkey had a limited number of performance arts venues.
“We are quickly overcoming the lack of venues by investing in building more State Theaters,” Özaslan said. “Looking at the investments that we have made since the establishment of the State Theater program, the number of stages has rapidly increased over the past five years. Culture and arts is very important for a society and our public institutions have a mission to meet this need.”
State Theaters General Director Lemi Bilgin said new stages were also opened in Ankara, Istanbul, İzmir, Bursa, Antalya, Adana, Trabzon, Diyarbakır, Konya, Erzurum, Sivas, Van, Gaziantep, Elazığ, Malatya, Çorum, Samsun, Zonguldak and Kahramanmaraş.
“Denizli is the 22nd city to open a State Theater,” he said.
