Mustafa Akaydın, the Republican People’s Party (CHP) mayor of the southwestern city of Antalya, was called to give testimony this morning in the latest legal probe to be launched against local administrations controlled by the opposition, daily Hürriyet reported.“We are currently waiting at the prosecutor’s office. Mr. Mayor is testifying,” Hürriyet quoted his secretary as saying.
The summons followed the launch of an investigation on municipal authorities in the Central Anatolian province of Eskişehir, which is also run by the CHP.
Further remarks by the mayor are expected after the testimony, he also said.
CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who claims that the raids on CHP-run municipalities are politically motivated, is today visiting Eskişehir to support Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen.
