One soldier killed in latest clashes in Turkey’s east

One soldier was killed Aug. 16 in armed clashes between the local gendarmerie and suspected Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the eastern province of Kars.

The clashes erupted during a gendarmerie special team operation in Kars’ Kağızman district. Two soldiers were wounded, one of whom later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The other wounded soldier is reported to be in a good condition.

Three suspected PKK militants were captured dead, along with their weapons.

An air-supported security operation is reportedly continuing in the region.
