March monthly inflation seen at 2.4 percent

Economists participating in Anadolu Agency’s survey forecast that Türkiye’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 2.4 percent in March on a monthly basis.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) is scheduled to release official March inflation data on April 3.

Expectations from 32 economists ranged between 2.04 percent and 3 percent. Based on the average forecast of 2.4 percent, annual inflation, which stood at 31.53 percent in February, is projected to ease slightly to 31.46 percent in March.

Meanwhile, economists’ year‑end inflation expectation averaged 25.91 percent as of March. The CPI had increased by 2.96 percent in February.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency on March 31, Central Bank Governor Fatih Karahan acknowledged that ongoing tensions in the Middle East have driven a sharp rise in energy prices, adding cost‑push pressure on inflation.

He warned that in the medium term, the war is expected to create further side effects, with cost‑ and supply‑side disruptions already weighing on price stability.

Karahan noted that a permanent 10 percent increase in oil prices adds approximately 1.1 percentage points to consumer inflation over a year. “We are determined to ensure the tightness required for the continuation of the disinflation process,” he said.
