Government mulls sale of thermic plants

Turkey will focus on the privatization of thermal power plants in the energy sector, Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said yesterday during the signature ceremony of the natural gas grid Başkentgaz’s shares transfer contract.Şimşek stated that they would continue the privatization project mostly with the thermal power plants of the Turkish Electricity Generation Corporation (EÜAŞ).
He said the private sector’s interest in energy privatizations was very important when considering Turkey’s energy demand. The Turkish Privatization Authority (ÖİB) will launch a tender for the Çatalağzı Thermal Power Plant in Zonguldak and the Yeniköy, Yatağan and Kemerköy plants in Muğla this month, sources said.
