Firm to build gas pipes from northern Iraq

Turkey’s energy regulator EPDK confirmed bid of Turkey’s Siyah Kalem, to import natural gas from Northern Iraq as of yesterday according to some energy officials spoke on the condition of anonymity. 

According to energy officials, Istanbul based company plans starting the natural gas import with a volume of 700 million cubic meters and increases its transfer capacity to $3 billion by 2033. Siyah Kalem is active in energy, infrastructure, hydro marine and industrial fields.

 There is not an existing natural gas pipeline from Iraq to Turkey to transfer gas for domestic market and sell to European market. However, the source said Iraqi officials plans to start the natural gas export by 2015. Turkey currently imports natural gas from Russia, İran and Azerbaijan and liquefied petroleum gas from Algeria and Nigeria.
