CHP set to add Turkic states in future visits

ANKARA
The main opposition party is planning to intensify its foreign policy agenda in the upcoming months with consecutive visits to regional countries as well as the United States, a senior party official said.

“Our outlook is not limited with neighboring countries. Our chairman will continue foreign visits. We are also attaching importance to the Turkic states. A visit to Uzbekistan is also envisaged,” deputy leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Faruk Loğoğlu told the Anadolu Agency on Oct. 18.

The CHP’s Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu paid visits to China, the United Kingdom and Iraq recently, while his closest foreign policy advisors made trips to Egypt and the U.S. in the recent months.

These trips are evidence that the CHP has also been developing a concrete foreign policy agenda, he stressed.

Loğoğlu said preparations for Kılıçdaroğlu’s visits to Tunisia, Jordan, the U.S. and Gaza Strip were underway, but final dates are not fixed due to the intense domestic agenda and looming local elections.

Earlier reports suggested Kılıçdaroğlu would go to the U.S. in November, but Loğoğlu said it was not yet finalized.

“Our counterparts in the U.S. say they would regard such a visit (by Kılıçdaroğlu) useful and necessary. There is no question about this visit,” Loğoğlu further said.
