Turkey is searching for new methods and devices to secure its southern borders following the upsurge inillegal crossings by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), daily Hürriyet reported.
The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) have been insisting on the observation zeppelins used by the U.S. army along the U.S.-Mexican border and in Afghanistan.
Observation zeppelins are being produced by several prominent U.S. and Israeli defense technology firms.
Zeppelins will be modified with the attachment of radar and optical systems produced by Aselsan, Turkey's leading defense technology firm. The estimated cost of zeppelins is around $60 million.
