SALT takes its place at Google Cultural Institute with exhibits

Salt, art space joins Google Cultural Institute with five online exhibitions.

Istanbul art space SALT is joining the Google Cultural Institute with five online exhibitions from the Ottoman Bank Archive.

Part of the SALT Research collections, the Ottoman Bank Archive not only makes available the narrative of an institution which served as the central bank and treasurer of the Ottoman Empire, but also offers a representation of life during a certain era. The archive reflects the little-known world of the late-Ottoman and early-Republican periods, during which the bank played a central role.

The archive, summarized in five exhibitions at the Google Cultural Institute, highlights the significant changes, developments and crises experienced over an 80-year period – from the date of the Ottoman Bank’s founding until 1933, when it gained private commercial bank status. The exhibitions play a significant role in making valuable documents accessible, conserved by the bank since 1890. The exhibitions refer to the changes in lifestyle and state administration during the late-Ottoman and early-Republican periods, as well as the transformations that occurred during the transition between these two periods.
