Rock’n’Coke celebrates its 10th year

With live acts and DJ performances, the Rock’n Coke Festival will celebrate its 10th year on Sept 7 and 8 at Istanbul’s Hezarfen Airport.

This year Turkey’s largest open-air event, Rock’n’Coke, will take place at Istanbul’s Hezarfen Airport, promising festival-goers an escape from city life with multi-genre live acts and DJ performances across several music stages. The festival takes place on September 7 and 8.

This year the festival will be celebrating its 10th year and for the first time Arctic Monkeys and Hurts will be here in Istanbul to meet their fans.

Apart from Arctic Monkeys and Hurts, one of the leading names of garage-rock, Palma Violets, will be on stage. Palma Violets’ first single, “Best of Friends,” was voted NME’s song of the year for 2012, and their debut album 180 was released on Feb. 25, 2013.

The band gained a substantial fan base online before the release of their first single – with multiple live videos of their gigs being uploaded by fans. Signed to Rough Trade Records, the band’s music shows some psychedelic influences. Palma Violets will appear on the NME Awards Tour 2013, along with Miles Kane, Django Django and Peace. London-based Jamiroquai, which have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide[4] and won a Grammy Award along with the English electronic dance music group The Prodigy will be other surprises of the festival.

Maximo Park, who recently announced their new album “The National Health,” also takes the stage. Belgium-based Triggerfinger, Little Boots, art-rock and indie-pop band from Finland Rubik will be at Rock’n’Coke Festival.

Among the Turkish stars, Teoman, Duman, Aylin Aslım, maNga, Can Bonomo, Rebel Moves, Replikas, Yasemin Mori, Melis Danişmend, Büyük Ev Ablukada, The Ringo Jets, Ayyuka, Portecho, Post, Dearhead, Gecko Chamber Live, Kaan Düzarat, Çağrı Sertel Band, Yora, Kırıka, 123, Alp Ersözmez, Childplay, Deniz Güngör, Serdar Barçın Band, Farfara and Mabel Matiz will be on the festival stage.

Arctic Monkeys first time

The main stage of the festival is presenting the Arctic Monkeys. The band will be coming to Turkey for the first time.

The band has released four studio albums. Their fifth album “AM” released in September 2013, their singles “R U Mine?” and “Do I Wanna Know” are among the popular songs of the new album. The band’s debut album became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history, surpassing Elastica’s self-titled album and remains the fastest-selling debut album by a group in the UK. The band has won five Brit Awards, winning Best British Group twice, and has twice been nominated for Grammy Awards.

Arctic Monkeys were heralded as one of the first group of acts to come to the public attention via the Internet (fan-based sites rather than from the band), with commentators suggesting they represented the possibility of a change in the way in which new bands are promoted and marketed. The band are also regarded as one of the most prominent bands to be part of the post-punk revival in the UK, after achieving commercial success and spawning two number one singles with their debut album.

Cooperation with Sziget

In its tenth year the festival will be celebrating with exclusive events. This year Rock’n’Coke will be in cooperation with Sziget festival. The foreign artist line-up of the festival has been made by the Sziget’s team. The local artist choice has been made by knowhow of the experienced consultants. The stage number has been increased to five and also there will be more after parties at the festival. There will be the Coke, Alternative Stage, Party Arena, Discovery Stage and also City Stage. The music at the festival will never end through the festival. Party Arena areas will provide non-stop music for 24 hours.
